Nov.2016 – Reading Wrap Up

Assalamualaikum… hello everyone.

Let’s see my reading wrap up for November 2016.

Title : Fire with Fire

Authors : Jenny Han & Siobhan Vivian

Synopsis (copied from Goodreads):

Lillia, Kat, and Mary had the perfect plan. Work together in secret to take down the people who wronged them. But things didn’t exactly go the way they’d hoped at the Homecoming Dance.

Not even close.

For now, it looks like they got away with it. All they have to do is move on and pick up the pieces, forget there ever was a pact. But it’s not easy, not when Reeve is still a total jerk and Rennie’s meaner than she ever was before.

And then there’s sweet little Mary…she knows there’s something seriously wrong with her. If she can’t control her anger, she’s sure that someone will get hurt even worse than Reeve was. Mary understands now that it’s not just that Reeve bullied her—it’s that he made her love him.

Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, burn for a burn. A broken heart for a broken heart. The girls are up to the task. They’ll make Reeve fall in love with Lillia and then they will crush him. It’s the only way he’ll learn.

It seems once a fire is lit, the only thing you can do is let it burn…

** Yup. This is the sequel to Burn to Burn series. This book was fast faced read. It has plot twist in the end.

Title : Ashes to Ashes

Authors : Jenny Han & Siobhan Vivian

Synopsis (Copied from Goodreads):

New Year’s Eve ended with a bang and Mary, Kat and Lillia may not be prepared for what is to come.
After Rennie’s death, Kat and Lillia try to put the pieces together of what happened to her. They both blame themselves. If Lillia hadn’t left with Reeve… If Kat had only stayed with Rennie… Things could have been different. Now they will never be the same.
Only Mary knows the truth about that night. About what she is. She also knows the truth about Lillia and Reeve falling in love, about Reeve being happy when all he deserves is misery, just like the misery he caused her. Now their childish attempts at revenge are a thing of the past and Mary is out for blood. Will she leave anything in her wake or will all that remain be ashes?

** I’m a bit frustrated with the ending of this book. I hope it never was written like that. 😕

Title : The Devotion of Suspect X

Author : Keigo Higashino

Synopsis (Copied from Goodreads):

Yasuko Hanaoka is a divorced, single mother who thought she had finally escaped her abusive ex-husband Togashi. When he shows up one day to extort money from her, threatening both her and her teenaged daughter Misato, the situation quickly escalates into violence and Togashi ends up dead on her apartment floor. Overhearing the commotion, Yasuko’s next door neighbor, middle-aged high school mathematics teacher Ishigami, offers his help, disposing not only of the body but plotting the cover-up step-by-step.

When the body turns up and is identified, Detective Kusanagi draws the case and Yasuko comes under suspicion. Kusanagi is unable to find any obvious holes in Yasuko’s manufactured alibi and yet is still sure that there’s something wrong. Kusanagi brings in Dr. Manabu Yukawa, a physicist and college friend who frequently consults with the police. Yukawa, known to the police by the nickname Professor Galileo, went to college with Ishigami. After meeting up with him again, Yukawa is convinced that Ishigami had something to do with the murder. What ensues is a high level battle of wits, as Ishigami tries to protect Yasuko by outmaneuvering and outthinking Yukawa, who faces his most clever and determined opponent yet.

** Not so thrilled but still enjoyed the plot twist. One thing I liked on Japanese book/movie, they tend to have a good plot. A plot that we never thought before, but it happened in our daily life.

Title : The Legend of Sleepy Hollow & Rip VanWinkle

Author : Washington Irving

Synopsis (Copied from Goodreads):

Headless horsemen were staples of Northern European storytelling, featuring in German, Irish (e.g. Dullahan), Scandinavian (e.g. the Wild Hunt) and English legends and were included in Robert Burns’s “Tam o’ Shanter” (1790), and Burger’s Der wilde Jager, translated as The Wild Huntsman (1796). Usually viewed as omens of ill-fortune for those who chose to disregard their apparitions, these specters found their victims in proud, scheming persons and characters with hubris and arrogance. The chief part of the stories, however, turned upon the favorite specter of Sleepy Hollow, the Headless Horseman, who had been heard several times of late, patrolling the country; and, it was said, tethered his horse nightly among the graves in the churchyard. The story was immediately matched by a thrice marvelous adventure of Brom Bones, who made light of the Galloping Hessian as an arrant jockey. He affirmed that on returning one night from the neighboring village of Sing Sing, he had been overtaken by this midnight trooper; that he had offered to race with him for a bowl of punch and should have won it too, for Daredevil beat the goblin horse all hollow, but just as they came to the church bridge, the Hessian bolted, and vanished in a flash of fire. All these tales, told in that drowsy undertone with which men talk in the dark, the countenances of the listeners only now and then receiving a casual gleam from the glare of a pipe, sank deep in the mind of Ichabod.

** This is classic. I bet you remember The legend of Sleepy Hollow, the headless horseman. Well, me and classic book. I find it hard to digest. However, it is a good tales of this version.

Oct.2016 – Reading Wrap Up

October been my progressive month in reading. Perhaps I was so busy and not really in a good health condition. I would just open my ibook and read. My kind of therapy.

Title : A Monster Calls

Author : Patrick Ness

On the early month, I saw from my hosting group – Buku Junkie that this book is recommended. This book is heart wrenching, sad and at the same time giving hope to us. I gave 5 stars for this book. Soon it will be a film version.

Synopsis (from Goodreads)

The monster showed up after midnight. As they do.

But it isn’t the monster Conor’s been expecting. He’s been expecting the one from his nightmare, the one he’s had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments, the one with the darkness and the wind and the screaming…

This monster is something different, though. Something ancient, something wild. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor.

It wants the truth.

Title : Black Ice

Author : Becca Fitzpatrick

In the meantime I read this book. Remember my favourite fallen angel series, Hush Hush? This book was from the same author. Yeah, although most of her books were underrated, I found thst I love her writing. And this book, also one of my favourite. Very mysterious!

Synopsis (from Goodreads)

Danger is hard to resist in this sexy thriller from Becca Fitzpatrick, the New York Times bestselling author of the Hush, Hush saga.

Britt Pheiffer has trained to backpack the Teton Range, but she isn’t prepared when her ex-boyfriend, who still haunts her every thought, wants to join her. Before Britt can explore her feelings for Calvin, an unexpected blizzard forces her to seek shelter in a remote cabin, accepting the hospitality of its two very handsome occupants—but these men are fugitives, and they take her hostage.

Britt is forced to guide the men off the mountain, and knows she must stay alive long enough for Calvin to find her. The task is made even more complicated when Britt finds chilling evidence of a series of murders that have taken place there…and in uncovering this, she may become the killer’s next target.

But nothing is as it seems, and everyone is keeping secrets, including Mason, one of her kidnappers. His kindness is confusing Britt. Is he an enemy? Or an ally?

Title : Anna and the French Kiss

Author : Stephanie Perkins

I always love the cover of this book. Always tempted to read it. At first I thought this is a romance genre book. Turns that it is a young adult genre. Just a light reading. Teen story, but I enjoyed reading it.

Synopsis (from Goodreads)

Anna is looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. Which is why she is less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris–until she meets Étienne St. Clair. Smart, charming, beautiful, Étienne has it all…including a serious girlfriend.

But in the City of Light, wishes have a way of coming true. Will a year of romantic near-misses end with their long-awaited French kiss?

Title : Burn for Burn

Author : Jenny Han & Siobhan Vivian

Last book that I read for that month was this series. This is the first book of Burn for Burn series. It was from my favourite author, Jenny Han (the one who wrotes To all the boys I loved before) and collaborating with her high school friend Siobhan Vivian (also a write). This book was suprisingly great.

Synopsis (from Goodreads)

Postcard-perfect Jar Island is home to charming tourist shops, pristine beaches, amazing oceanfront homes—and three girls secretly plotting revenge.

KAT is sick and tired of being bullied by her former best friend.

LILLIA has always looked out for her little sister, so when she discovers that one of her guy friends has been secretly hooking up with her, she’s going to put a stop to it.

MARY is perpetually haunted by a traumatic event from years past, and the boy who’s responsible has yet to get what’s coming to him.

None of the girls can act on their revenge fantasies alone without being suspected. But together…anything is possible.

With an alliance in place, there will be no more “I wish I’d said…” or “If I could go back and do things differently…” These girls will show Jar Island that revenge is a dish best enjoyed together.
Now, how progressive right. Lol. I’m near to complete my reading challenge. Wishme luck. Ciao. 😘

Book Junkie mode ON

How are you my lovelies?

When my stitching currently off mode, my reading mode is on. That’s how it goes. I never had time doing nothng. 😂

How many of you have read this book? Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. There was a movie version from this book adaptation too. I have watched the movie and read the book. I gave 4 stars for both version.

You can read the book synopsis and my review in here

After reading tensed book, I would change something in light genre. So I picked this book. Wait Till Helen Comes by Mary Downing Hahn. The plot was ok, about a young girl who accidentally burnt their house and caused the death of both her parent. The soul never found peace so she haunted another girl living in that house. It stated there as a ghost story, but it didn’t scared me at all.👻 Perhaps it was a children book. Gonna keep it for Amani reading in future.

Saw from the internet that this book also had turn into a film version too. Great!

And after reading Helen… in one sitting, I was itchy to grab this new book bought at Popular Book Fair two weeks ago.

So this is my current read. The Girl on The Train by Paula Hawkins. Yes, another thriller. And also another ‘book going to be a movie’ soon will be showing on October 2016.

So far so good. Wait for my review. I think I can finish reading this book within this week.

p/s: The fried bihun was good too. 😂

Me Before You (Movie)

Hiya lovelies!

If you still remember I have blogged about Me Before You novel that I reviewed on last year. I was reading it from ibook application. I have told you how much I love the book and hoping  that it would turn into a movie someday.  When I heard that they are going to make a movie adaptation from the book, I was so excited and counting days to watch the movie.

Fnally, on the second day of the movie premier, I watched it. Indeed I supposed to have a movie date with my sister that day. Unfortunately, she couldn’t make it so I watched with DearDear and Amani. I was so thrilled! Eventhough it was a love story.ehehehe.

90% of the plot in the movie were based on the novel. That’s what we want! Unlike other movie adaptation, they tend to make plot twist and changed the original story. I could say this is the best movie adaptation from the novel so far.

If you haven’t watch this movie, I recommend you to watch it. It was just so lovely as the book. And don’t forget to bring tissue or handkerchief yeah. 😂 I think I want to watch it again and again and again…. bahaha.

Secret Santa

Assalamualaikum and how are you my lovely friends and readers?

For some of you might have known that I have one facebook group for book lovers. It is called Buku Junkie group. For the last month activity, I have organised a Secret Santa.

The game was simple, each of us was assigned to give one book to one group member.

This is the book that I got to send to my assigned member. I chose My week with Marilyn, a memoir since she prefered to have memoir genre.

And here is what I received from my Secret Santa. Northern Lights by Philip Pullman. It was a great choice indeed. I can’t wait to read this book.

On the shelf (August 2015)

Assalamualaikum, hiya friends and readers!

Last night I took a shelfie with my ‘drugs’ collection. How I hate the double stack books on the shelf. It looks messy, stuffy and too crowded! That would because of the shelf isn’t suitable for displaying books. I’m looking for a real bookshelf, preferably in white colour and has enough space for my books. Lol! 😆

This is the problem with book addicts. Their books are everywhere. I have another mini book stack in my bedroom. Precisely, my current read books. How do you like my book end? I really really really love it! 🐸
