Nov.2016 – Reading Wrap Up

Assalamualaikum… hello everyone.

Let’s see my reading wrap up for November 2016.

Title : Fire with Fire

Authors : Jenny Han & Siobhan Vivian

Synopsis (copied from Goodreads):

Lillia, Kat, and Mary had the perfect plan. Work together in secret to take down the people who wronged them. But things didn’t exactly go the way they’d hoped at the Homecoming Dance.

Not even close.

For now, it looks like they got away with it. All they have to do is move on and pick up the pieces, forget there ever was a pact. But it’s not easy, not when Reeve is still a total jerk and Rennie’s meaner than she ever was before.

And then there’s sweet little Mary…she knows there’s something seriously wrong with her. If she can’t control her anger, she’s sure that someone will get hurt even worse than Reeve was. Mary understands now that it’s not just that Reeve bullied her—it’s that he made her love him.

Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, burn for a burn. A broken heart for a broken heart. The girls are up to the task. They’ll make Reeve fall in love with Lillia and then they will crush him. It’s the only way he’ll learn.

It seems once a fire is lit, the only thing you can do is let it burn…

** Yup. This is the sequel to Burn to Burn series. This book was fast faced read. It has plot twist in the end.

Title : Ashes to Ashes

Authors : Jenny Han & Siobhan Vivian

Synopsis (Copied from Goodreads):

New Year’s Eve ended with a bang and Mary, Kat and Lillia may not be prepared for what is to come.
After Rennie’s death, Kat and Lillia try to put the pieces together of what happened to her. They both blame themselves. If Lillia hadn’t left with Reeve… If Kat had only stayed with Rennie… Things could have been different. Now they will never be the same.
Only Mary knows the truth about that night. About what she is. She also knows the truth about Lillia and Reeve falling in love, about Reeve being happy when all he deserves is misery, just like the misery he caused her. Now their childish attempts at revenge are a thing of the past and Mary is out for blood. Will she leave anything in her wake or will all that remain be ashes?

** I’m a bit frustrated with the ending of this book. I hope it never was written like that. 😕

Title : The Devotion of Suspect X

Author : Keigo Higashino

Synopsis (Copied from Goodreads):

Yasuko Hanaoka is a divorced, single mother who thought she had finally escaped her abusive ex-husband Togashi. When he shows up one day to extort money from her, threatening both her and her teenaged daughter Misato, the situation quickly escalates into violence and Togashi ends up dead on her apartment floor. Overhearing the commotion, Yasuko’s next door neighbor, middle-aged high school mathematics teacher Ishigami, offers his help, disposing not only of the body but plotting the cover-up step-by-step.

When the body turns up and is identified, Detective Kusanagi draws the case and Yasuko comes under suspicion. Kusanagi is unable to find any obvious holes in Yasuko’s manufactured alibi and yet is still sure that there’s something wrong. Kusanagi brings in Dr. Manabu Yukawa, a physicist and college friend who frequently consults with the police. Yukawa, known to the police by the nickname Professor Galileo, went to college with Ishigami. After meeting up with him again, Yukawa is convinced that Ishigami had something to do with the murder. What ensues is a high level battle of wits, as Ishigami tries to protect Yasuko by outmaneuvering and outthinking Yukawa, who faces his most clever and determined opponent yet.

** Not so thrilled but still enjoyed the plot twist. One thing I liked on Japanese book/movie, they tend to have a good plot. A plot that we never thought before, but it happened in our daily life.

Title : The Legend of Sleepy Hollow & Rip VanWinkle

Author : Washington Irving

Synopsis (Copied from Goodreads):

Headless horsemen were staples of Northern European storytelling, featuring in German, Irish (e.g. Dullahan), Scandinavian (e.g. the Wild Hunt) and English legends and were included in Robert Burns’s “Tam o’ Shanter” (1790), and Burger’s Der wilde Jager, translated as The Wild Huntsman (1796). Usually viewed as omens of ill-fortune for those who chose to disregard their apparitions, these specters found their victims in proud, scheming persons and characters with hubris and arrogance. The chief part of the stories, however, turned upon the favorite specter of Sleepy Hollow, the Headless Horseman, who had been heard several times of late, patrolling the country; and, it was said, tethered his horse nightly among the graves in the churchyard. The story was immediately matched by a thrice marvelous adventure of Brom Bones, who made light of the Galloping Hessian as an arrant jockey. He affirmed that on returning one night from the neighboring village of Sing Sing, he had been overtaken by this midnight trooper; that he had offered to race with him for a bowl of punch and should have won it too, for Daredevil beat the goblin horse all hollow, but just as they came to the church bridge, the Hessian bolted, and vanished in a flash of fire. All these tales, told in that drowsy undertone with which men talk in the dark, the countenances of the listeners only now and then receiving a casual gleam from the glare of a pipe, sank deep in the mind of Ichabod.

** This is classic. I bet you remember The legend of Sleepy Hollow, the headless horseman. Well, me and classic book. I find it hard to digest. However, it is a good tales of this version.

I feel greedy

Moshi moshi minna san! 😆

This month I feel very greedy when it comes to my ‘drug collections’. Lol!

Welcoming my new drugs for this month.

  1. The Bane Chronicles – Cassandra Clare
  2. To all the boys I’ve loved before – Jenny Han
  3. Fairest – Marissa Meyer
  4. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children – Ransom Riggs

If you are still remember I used to mention that I bought myself a book as my birthday present, that is the fourth book. I’m halfway reading it, and I can’t put it down. Saw some sources from the author’s instagram, the book is now in the filming process. I can’t wait!

And these are some of the new ebooks that I’d downloaded last night. More and more on Young Adults genres. Hehe. All I have to find is ‘time’ for reading all these drugs. And I’m still looking for moreee. I feel greedy. 😁

That is so like me. 😝

Book Junkie is back

Hello lovelies…

Thank you for my daughter’s birthday wishes. She is now busied with her new princess’ house. It’s a doll house, our present for her. I’ll mAke sure to write about it someday.

October seems to be my crazy day. I am back to my addiction. This is my bookhaul from the Big Bad Wolf, Seremban. No, I didn’t go there. As usual, my friend bought them for me. Saw the ads on fb, so text her instantly. Luckily she managed to grab those book. Thank you, Fara! 😘

Now I have a complete series of The Hunger Games. That means, I have two copies of the first book. I think I’m going to let go one of them. Let’s see anyone want to buy it from me? The Hush Hush saga, looks like a completed series. No it’s not. The second book is still missing, Cresendo. Never mind, am going to hunt it on another book fair. Hehe.

IMG_3645.JPG

I also bought this Malay urban book from MPH Bookstore. Saw the review was good, so I bought it without a second thinking. The plot was more like a Prison Break and Shawshank Redemption, only the setting was in Malaysia. Thumbs up for the young writer!

There is another book I bought from Popular Bookstore. Peony in love by Lisa See. Somehow, I didn’t take a picture of it. I’ve already added the title into my TBR Jar. i wonder when it is the time to read the book. Hehe.

IMG_3647.JPG

After finished reading Lolos Penjara, so I pick one title from my TBR Jar. Perfecto! It’s Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. I’m not cheating yeah…. Hehe. So, this is my current read. I’m not stuck in the ‘angel world’ Hehe. Yeah, I keep on fantasise on the Charmed series and Supernatural Series… where there were fallen angel characters on it. Same goes to Hush Hush.

Alright then, I think I heard the fallen angel is calling me. Till then lovelies… Xoxo.

TBR Jar

It’s approaching to 4 am and I couldn’t continue my sleep.
So I decided to update my blog, since I won’t have time for blogging in the daytimes.

What is a TBR Jar? Most of you know that I really love collecting used jar and upcycle it into a new crafty jar. As for this time, I’m using my used jar to become a TBR Jar – To Be Read Jar.

I am not sure about you…. but I always have a problem to choose what to read next after finish reading one book. I would browsed around my bookshelf and end up choosing the latest book I bought. I would feel terrible for abandoning my other ‘unread books’ 😜

There were times I need an application to help selecting a book to read. Then came an idea of this – TBR Jar which I found on the Instagram.

IMG_2750.PNG

I can assure you it is the cheapest ‘app’ that you can get. Lol! All you need is a used jar. Decorate it with the way you like and put it on a label of ‘TBR Jar’ In short for To Be Read Jar.

the hardest part is to list down all of your unread books. Provided that you have more than 10 unread books. Lol! 😂 My list was still ‘sikit’ lah. About 30+ unread books on the shelf. 😜 If you’re lazy to write, you can type on the list. Tear it one by one according to the book you have wrote down. Tossed all of them into the jar. Now you will have to play like a ‘lucky draw’ contest!

Pick one book title from the jar. Looks like my TBR Jar had chosen The Reading Group by Elizabeth Noble for my next reading.

Happy reading everyone!

Insurgent

My April 2014 Drug…

image

Insurgent by Veronica Roth. This is the second book from the Divergent Series. Very exciting but not so thrilling as the book one. Can’t wait to move on to book three.

Have you watch the Divergent movie? My friend told me it was a great movie. I’m still haven’t got a chance to watch it. Perhaps just waiting for a clear DVD version. huhu.

Divergent

This is my March 2014 Drug.

Divergent by Veronica Roth. It’s captivating, fascinating and fast-paced book. I had underestimate this book in the first place. ‘Preserved’ the books for quite a long time because I didn’t think this book will make me attached. Lol! Love the characters in this book, both Tris and Four were very powerful and important to each other. 5 stars for this book!

I got the ebooks from Kathy. Thanks dear! After halfway reading the first book, I thought that I must have it for my collection. So I went to the bookstore and bought The Divergent Box. It’s also a self reward for myself!

image

The box consists of the three series : Divergent, Insurgent and Allegiant plus a booklet of ‘The world of Veronica Roth’s Divergent Series’. Happy!!! That’s how to describe my feeling at this moment. eheee…

Now, am going to continue reading the second book. Till then, bye!
